Lowell police officer held in alleged drunk driving death

A Lowell police officer, awaiting trial on a 2013 drunk driving charge, was arrested Saturday in connection with a head-on crash that killed a Lawrence man.

 

According to the Lowell Sun, Eric Wayne was off duty at approximately 12:30 Saturday morning when his 2013 Land Rover SUV crossed over the center line on Riverside Drive in Methuen, and collided with a a vehicle operated by 26-year-old Briant Paula. Paula was pronounced dead at Lawrence General Hospital shortly after he was tranported there by ambulance.
