State bill would expand ignition locks for DWI offenders

State lawmakers soon may change New Jersey’s drunken-driving laws, expanding the number of people who will have to use an ignition interlock to start their car while allowing them to legally drive sooner.

Under the proposal, the first two times a person is convicted of driving under the influence, he or she would face a 10-day license suspension, followed by the use of an ignition interlock for three to six months.
