Sheriff defends handling of DWI case

Washington County Sheriff Jeff Murphy on Tuesday defended his office’s handling of a car crash case in which the relative of a sheriff’s administrator and former state trooper received a lenient plea deal, saying the charges his office filed were appropriate and there was no favoritism.

Murphy’s office released more information Tuesday about the case, after a Post-Star editorial questioned whether the lenient plea deal stemmed from favoritism because of defendant Steven J. Sharp’s connections to law enforcement.
