Legislature should reject ban on sobriety checkpoints

If we could develop a method that would have the potential to prevent one in 10 DUI-related deaths, would you want law enforcement to use it? Guess what, we already have it and some lawmakers are pushing a bill to make it unlawful.

House Bill 1084, which was debated again Monday at the Capitol in Bismarck, would move to make sobriety checkpoints illegal. The very same law enforcement tool that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention contends has the potential to prevent one in 10 DUI-related deaths is under attack in the Legislature.
