Chicopee police officer pleads guilty to drunk driving after Belchertown car crash

A city police officer has pleaded guilty to drunken driving and negligent operation of a motor vehicle and will serve 30 days in jail for his crimes.

Paul Genest, 41, of Chicopee, pleaded guilty in Hampshire Superior Court Tuesday. He was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail, 30 days of that sentence will be served in the Hampshire Jail and House of Correction and the balance will be suspended during a five-year probationary period, Northwestern First Assistant District Attorney Steven Gagne said in a written statement.
