SAFFORD — A local referee was penalized for a driving foul Dec. 14 when he was arrested for DUI.
According to a Safford Police report, Ascension Trujillo Jr., 58, was arrested for DUI after he sped past a police car and blew a stop sign at the intersection of 20th Street and U.S. Highway 191 at about 8:45 p.m. The officer estimated Trujillo’s speed to be greater than 50 mph in a designated 35 mph area but was not able to catch him on radar before he was out of range.
The officer gave pursuit and came upon the suspect’s vehicle pulled over along the shoulder of Lone Star Road.
