Senate passes bill for DUI ignition interlock
The state Senate passed legislation last week authorizing magistrates, in addition to judges, to prohibit drivers adjudicated of driving under the influence from operating a motor vehicle that is not equipped with an ignition interlock system. The bill also establishes updated rules, regulations, fines and penalties for the continued enforcement of the ignition interlock system.
“Looking at the recidivism rates in this country, it remains clear to me that Rhode Island and other states can still make a difference in stopping those drivers who repeatedly choose to get behind the wheel when they are intoxicated or high,” said Sen.
